Meet our Pediatric Dentists
Dr. Hyer and Dr. Guild both believe in practicing minimally invasive dentistry — focusing on first preventing tooth decay and then when needed, treating the tooth decay in as minimal a way as possible. They strive to help find the root cause of the issues and then come up with strategies to prevent it in the future. This is made possible with early detection and routine checkups and cleanings.
Why Choose a Pediatric Dentist?
Dr. Tate Guild and Dr. Chandler Hyer at Vegas Kids Dental are both pediatric dentists. Pediatric Dentists undergo an extra two years of training specialize in the dental care of children and to ensure they have a positive at the dentist.

Pediatric dentists undergo specialized training that prepares them to meet children's unique oral healthcare needs more effectively than general dentists. Their education emphasizes child behavior management and common dental issues in children, ensuring a friendly environment and techniques to reduce anxiety. They are also equipped to handle dental emergencies and specific concerns like cavities and orthodontics, allowing them to deliver compassionate care tailored to young patients.

When should my child first see a dentist? The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends the first visit by age 1 or within 6 months of the first tooth erupting.
-
What's the best way to brush my child's teeth?Use a small, soft-bristled toothbrush with toothpaste. For children under 3, use a smear (rice-sized amount); for older kids, use a pea-sized amount.
-
Why are my child’s permanent teeth coming in behind the baby teeth? Shark Teeth? This is common and usually resolves naturally, but if baby teeth don’t loosen, the dentist may need to help out the baby teeth.
-
Can I stay with my child during treatment? We encourage parents to be with their children during their visits. We provide extra seating for parents and siblings.
-
Is thumb sucking or pacifier use bad for my child’s teeth?Prolonged habits after age 3-4 can affect bite and tooth alignment. We recommend weening children off pacifiers and finger sucking by age 3 to avoid causing narrowing of the jaws, which can lead to airway, sleep, and orthodontic issues.
-
Will my child need braces? It depends on bite, crowding, and jaw development. Some children may require early orthodontic intervention to correct jaw misalignment, severe crowding, and breathing issues.
-
What if my child is scared of the dentist?A pediatric dentist specializes in making visits fun and comforting. Early visits help build trust. Dr. Guild and Dr. Hyer became pediatric dentists because they want to make sure every child feels comfortable and enjoys coming the dentist. They hope every child leaves their care wanting to come back. For those children who are especially scared, nervous, or anxious, Dr. Guild and Dr. Hyer offer moderate and deep sedation to ensure dental treatment is comfortable.
-
Do you offer alternatives to silver caps/crowns?Yes! We offer esthetic alternatives that restore teeth and function very well.
-
Do you use amalgam (silver mercury) fillings? No, our office does not use amalgam (silver mercury) fillings. We use BPA-free tooth colored composite fillings.
-
Do you offer alternatives to Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)?Yes. Some children need a little extra help getting their dental treatment completed safely. We offer moderate conscious sedation. Moderate conscious sedation is a safe and effective way to help your child feel relaxed and comfortable during their dental procedure while still being awake and able to respond. It helps reduce anxiety, discomfort, and the fear that some kids may feel at the dentist. It is a drink they will drink prior to their procedure.
-
Do you provide general anesthesia for treatment?Yes. We understand that the idea of general anesthesia can feel overwhelming, but in some cases, it is the safest and most effective way to ensure your child gets the dental care they need while remaining comfortable and stress-free. Why General Anesthesia? General anesthesia allows us to complete your child’s dental treatment while they are fully asleep, meaning: ✔ They won’t feel any pain or discomfort. ✔ They won’t remember the procedure, reducing dental anxiety in the future. ✔ It helps if your child is too young, very anxious, has special healthcare needs, or requires extensive dental work that would be difficult to complete while awake. Is It Safe? Yes! General anesthesia in dentistry is very safe when administered by a trained medical anesthesia provider in a controlled environment. Throughout the procedure, your child’s vital signs (breathing, heart rate, oxygen levels) will be carefully monitored. What to Expect: Your child will be asleep the entire time and will not feel anything during the procedure. They will wake up gradually and may be groggy for a few hours afterward. We will provide you with detailed post-care instructions to ensure a smooth recovery at home. We only recommend general anesthesia when it is truly necessary for your child’s well-being. Our priority is always to provide gentle, conservative, and safe care while making sure your child has a positive dental experience. If you have any questions or concerns, we are here to help!
